15 Easy Do At Home Summer Activities

Make Sand Castles- Add sand to a large bin, add water to make the sand malleable, provide small plastic bowls and spoons to make sand castles.

Have your own parade around the house wearing your favorite colors; decorate a bike or tricycle with crepe paper for a parade around the neighborhood.

Make a variety of differently sized ice cubes.  Place the cubes into a large bowl with spoons and small plastic cup or a muffin tin for sorting and exploring.

Sand Collage – Paint a sheet of paper with a watery glue mixture, sprinkle sand on the paper and pour off the excess to reveal the design.

Have a picnic in your backyard or nearby park.  Find a basket and ask your child to help you gather the items you will need for a picnic, a blanket, a snack, etc. 

Splatter painting – Lay a large sheet or sheet of paper outside, water down paint and give your child large brushes to splatter the paint.

Make sun prints – Place a sheet of colored construction paper in the sun, on top place ABC magnets or other flat toys and leave for the day.  What happened?

Make your own Popsicles with juice, paper cups and craft sticks.  Freeze and enjoy.

Sink or float? Provide your child with a variety of objects and a bin of water.  Encourage your child to predict whether the object will sink or float.

Ice carry – How far can you carry an ice cube on a wooden spoon.

Write a letter to someone you love.

Create a “spray paint” mural using a large piece of paper outside, water mixed with a teaspoon of washable paint in a small spray bottle. 

Filling and pouring – Use measuring cups and spoons to explore how many spoons it takes to fill a cup etc…

Fill a clean spray bottle with water and take outside for cool summer fun.

Decorate a sheet of paper and fold into a fan.
