Getting More Done Around the House Using Less
Money and Less Time...Quick and Easy Fixes For All Moms!
By Lynn Turner

Eco-Friendly Home Deodorizer- Tape a Mrs. Meyer's aromatherapy dryer sheet onto the air duct vents throughout your house and voila! Change every few days for a consistently fresh smelling home!  FYI-I love the Geranium and Basil Scents.

Dish Duty- Start a "Clean Sink" plan at your house.  As soon as anyone (you, your spouse, your kids, nanny, etc.)  uses a cup, dish, fork, frying pan, whatever...make sure they rinse it out in the sink with water and put it directly into the dishwasher.  That way you never have any dirty dishes in the sink!  FYI- This goes for mealtimes too!

Instead of using a few drops of soap in a bowl with water every time you wash the dishes in the sink, try this to extend the life your liquid soap and to reuse your soapy water mix.  Pour 1 Tablespoon of liquid soap into a medium, travel sized container with a squirt top, and fill it with water and close.  Keep this container at the sink and apply directly to sponge to wash items and then use water to rinse!  Refill container with mix when empty.  FYI- Eco-friendly and non toxic cleaners are best for you, your family and the environment.  Try Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Magic All in One Soap its great!

Laundry Shmaundry-  Yes. Don't we all love this one...
It seems that the only way to get ahead of this monster is to complete at least two loads a day and get everyone in the house involved.  Pick a central location near the bedrooms and keep three color coded laundry bins of your choosing there.  Make sure the bins are just big enough to fit one full load in your washer and has a removable soft liner in it.  It works best to have some sort of removable bag lining the bins so you are not lugging a heavy and bulky plastic bin up and down the stairs.  Have the kids and your significant other sort their dirty clothes by color and place them into the bins daily.   Before you know it this will become a habit!  When a bin is almost full take the removable bag out and wash the load.  Ask your kids if they would like to help you put the clothes in the washer and add the soap.  Your little ones will love this!  Once the clothes are dry bring them to your bed and sort, fold and place the clean clothes in each persons bedroom for them to put away (your kids can help here too!) Since the loads are relatively small, it should not take them more than a few minutes to do!

FYI- If you don't have a removable bag, placing a queen sheet in the plastic bin as a liner works great too...just drop the middle of the sheet in the bin and tie the corners of the sheet around the rim of the basket to keep it in place!

FYI- Combining a few blues in with the whites makes them brighter!

FYI-  If you've stopped using dryer sheets but are unhappy with the way your clothes turn out (static cling, no fresh scent, and not as soft), you'll be happy to discover that a less-toxic dryer sheet option exists. Mrs. Meyer's Aromatherapy Dryer Sheets will leave your clothes smelling fresh and feeling soft, without many of the harmful chemicals that are commonly found in regular dryer sheets.

FYI- 7th Generation Laundry Soap is the "go to" Liquid Laundry Detergent.

FYI- Many newer washers and dryers have a delay feature.  To save money, use this option to run a load in the middle of the night when electricity rates are lower.
